Possibly less: I would first ask if Alzheimer's (DAT) is the correct diagnosis. DAT is not always the correct diagnosis in cases of neurocognitive disorders (dementia). Other conditions also cause trouble with memory and thinking in advanced age and are often missed. If DAT is the correct diagnosis, Aricept (donepezil) helps slow the functional decline but not the actual disease process. New medicines are in development.

Alzheimer: Medications may slow progression in early stages. In advanced stages, only palliative supportive nursing care & treating other medical problems.
