Iud: Heavy menses is common after insertion of the copper IUD. it is usually treated with reassurance. The bleeding usually lessens within a few months and many women adjust to the increase in their menses. However sometimes a short coarse of ibuprofen has been shown to lessen the bleeding. If anything taking BCPs could make the bleeding worse later when they are stopped.
