Thyroid nodules: When there are multiple nodules in the thyroid (called "multinodular goiter") it is usually a benign condition but sometimes if there can be a malignant nodule hidden among the other nodules. Other tests that would be helpful would be a TSH and possibly a thyroid scan. A needle biopsy normally is only done if there is some suspicion that one of the nodules is not benign
