would hiatal hernia cause heavy chest/short breaths and insomnia? i always get to sleep fine but wake up several times in the early morning. x-ray?

Yes. : Only if it is a rather large hernia that is compressing on your heart and lungs. A chest x-Ray wouldn't be a bad start, but I assume that's how it was diagnosed. Good luck, hope this helped.
