Neurontin (gabapentin): Neurontin (gabapentin) is a safe drug and very helpful for neuropathic pain. Neurontin can cause drowsiness and dizziness when first started so beginning the medication at night to minimize side effects. The dosage can be increased every 3-5 days until the nerve pain is well controlled and as the side effects resolve. About 8% will develop swelling and weight gain after a few weeks of therapy.
