He needs seen: A new, one-sided, intense headache that is persistent needs evaluated. It could be many things (arteritis, TMJ, masseter inflammation, etc.). Some serious, some not--sorry but cannot tell w/o exam. See his Dr, Urgent Care, or ER Dr for exam.

See doctor asap: As a new onset headache or head pain that is worsening needs to be evaluated with a more detailed history and physical exam and possible testing.
