Not to worry: Most likely not a problem, after 30 years of practicing medicine I truly have never see a platelet count like this become or even be a sign of a problem! If concerned, then recheck in a few months! If abnormal bleeding, such as unusual gum bleeding or severe bruising of legs or feet then may be a concern! These tests are done out of clinical context and are usually not anything to worry about u

Repeat and review: This is below the normal range; however, it is considered only a mild case of low platelets and she is unlikely to have any obvious symptoms from it, nor should she need to worry about spontaneous bleeding. There are many causes of low platelet count. It would be very helpful to know what her last measurement was-this could be normal for her.I would repeat the blood count and do a peripheral smear

Repeat test: The first thing would be to have the test redrawn and repeated. If there is still a low platelet count, then I would suggest follow-up with your medical provider on options at that point. Often a low platelet level or any lab level may be spurious and will not occur on repeat. According to standards of deviation, 1 in every 20 lab tests will be outside normal range, even when really normal.
