Can fluocinonide .05 cream be used for treating eczema?

Yes: It is a high potency steroid cream and in children we try to stay with the mid strength steroid creams. It can be absorbed to some extent and can cause thinning of the skin. Use judiciously, but not in children.

If it was prescribed: for this purpose & only as directed. Lidex (fluocinonide) gel is a topical corticosteroid that can decrease inflammation, itching, dryness and redness of skin. It may be used for treating conditions such as psoriais, atopic dermatitis, eczema, lichen planus, inflammatory dermatoses, mild burns. It can be used adjunctively for serorrheic dermatitis, alopecia areata, disidrosis & nodular puririgo.
