Anti-inflammatory: anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen, and physical therapy can be very effective for "aching" neck pain. If the pain gets worse, or you develop any new symptoms, like pain going down your arms, weakness / sensory changes in your extremities, then you need to seek medical attention and will most likely require imaging (MRI) of your neck at that time.

See below: Chronic neck pain is often related to abnormal wear on the cartilage and bones of the neck (cervical vertebrae). This develops over time and is often the result of posture, occupation, genetics, and normal wear and tear. Often symptoms develop over time or can occur suddenly. Prevention including smoking cessation, proper ergonomics, and posture are the best ways to avoid pain.
