Usually 1 week: It usually take a full week of therapy for the full benefit of the medication to be seen. It is possible that patients will get some relief within 24 to 48 hours. If no benefit is seen by 1 week, it is advisable to seek treatment by GI physician. You may need to have a scope performed to look for esophageal strictures.
