How long do scabie mites live for?

On or off skin??: On the skin they can live for months - that's why treatment is needed because otherwise the rash and itching will persist. Off of the skin, like on your sofa cushions or pillows, they can live for about 3 days. That's why when treating for scabies and cleaning up the environment, you bag things you can't wash in hot water in a sealed garbage bag for 3 days to kill any persistent mites.
