Upper Chamber open.: There are 2 natural openings in unborn babies. A patent ductus arteriosus (between Pulm Artery and Aorta) and a Patent Foramen Ovale (between the Left and Right atria). The PFO is the one you refer. It is natural and closes in the majority of babies shortly after birth. Other PFOs stay open and may need to be closed later, although still uncommon.
