A member asked:

How is infectious mononucleosis serology interpreted?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Surprise: When the serology test was first used it was thought to be diagnostic. Eventually it was found that most people were positive. It appears that the eb virus is an opportunist organism that is "waiting in the wings" for some body chemistry that provides its advantage. Then the serology titre (concentrration) goes up as the organism becomes active.
