Dr. Jan Lei Iwata answered

Specializes in Ophthalmology

NF support gp impt: Depending on the degree of scoliosis, a spine specialist can assist. Also, an osteopathic physician (DO) with neuromusculoskeletal training can help and treat as well as evaluate on your first visit. Do need to know the level and type of NF history you have. Hope you are part of a support group, as that's always helpful for local referrals to specialists, who work with NF patients.

An Orthopaedic : surgeon with fellowship spine training will be helpful especially with a condition involving neurofibromatosis. A neurosurgeon with specific spine deformity fellowship training may also address this diagnosis but be frank and be sure to ask about their training and experience with this type of deformity as it is related to another underlying condition.

Yes: Absolutely. Scoliosis is not all that uncommon and you would be well served to find an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in scoliosis to discuss treatment options.
