Both will kill germs: Both hydrogen peroxide and alcohol will help kill bacteria. The peroxide can be a bit strong/caustic, so I prefer a salt solution or alcohol. As for twisting, this is to help prevent build up of debris and scar tissue, but this is less important than keeping things clean. Good luck!
