M.D. visit: There may be inflammation and reactivity of the airways after a viral infection. This can result in a prolonged cough. If you experience any chest pain, fever, difficulty breathing or wheezing or cough for more than 2 weeks, I would recommend seeing your physician. They may order a chest radiograph and/or a pulmonary function test to determine if there is another underlying cause.
