Need more info: Rheumatism is a term that means musculoskeletal pain. The pain can come from the muscles, ligaments, tendons or joints. Arthritis is a type of rheumatism that can be made worse by activity. Since it is worse after activity (walking) I assume that the pain is in her legs. Speaking to a doctor and having an exam can help her localize where the pain is coming from.
