Shortness of breath: Shortness of breath can be caused by lots of things, from asthma to anxiety. Histal hernia generally won't cause it. Nor will mitral valve prolapse. However the anxiety that sometimes goes along with the mitral valve prolapse diagnosis could. Have you had allergies or asthma? Do you only get short of breath under stress or with exercise? If you are anxious, please get a therapist to speak with!

Hiatal hernia: When you eat your stomach becomes more full and if more of your stomach is in the chest (this is what a hiatal hernia is) then it takes up space that could be used for breathing otherwise. People with hiatal hernias also frequently have acid reflux disease as well and this can affect breathing. This is unlikely to have anything to do with your MVP or heart murmur.
