A member asked:

Does a six-month regimen of prednisone (for iga nephropathy) risk damage to hips/joints? husband is having hip pain after a month on the drug.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Prednisone effect: One of the major side effects of Prednisone is bone loss. The importance of it depends on the underlying bone health/condition of the individual. We generally acquire a bone density scan before starting long term steroid therapy and if we find signs of underlying osteoporosis we treat it at the same time (with Calcium, Vitamin D analogs, and Bisphosphonates). Your husband probably need one now!
