Rectal bleeding: Rectal bleeding associated with large hard stools is usually due to hemorrhoids or sometimes anal fissures. Have your physician do a rectal exam to get more information. In the mean time start using a stool softener.

Yes: Kids with hard or bulky stools or some that push out too fast will cause a crack in the outlet. This deposits bright red blood on the outside of the BM. It tends to recur as long as the stool is hard/bulky. Going more often, or using a stool softener like miralax can help over time. I've never seen a kid with a hemorrhoid.
