Maybe a fissure: Hemorrhoids - swollen anal veins - can cause bleeding and discomfort. However, more likely, a small anal tear - an anal fissure - is causing anal pain and bleeding with bm's. Do see a doctor for an anal exam. Treatment is keeping your stool very soft (stool softener pills - like colace), and warm baths with epsom salts. Almost all fissures heal but it may take several weeks. Peter wilk, md.
