Gastroenteritis: No , this condition is not normal, your child has a viral gastroenteritis .place your child on a bland diet,and mke sure he it drinking electrolyte containing fluids.

Breast Milk: I would add to Dr. Novick's answer, that she is still able to breast feed during the illness. If there are any signs of dehydration such as dry mouth/lips, decreased number of wet diapers and/or fever, please see your physician. Viral illness causing diarrhea, usually does not last longer than 7 days. Sometimes there can be associated cough and cold symptoms.
