A member asked:

How often should someone taking plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) have their eyes checked? what are the most current guidelines?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) guidelines: The guidelines for Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) / Hydroxychloroquine screening changed a few years ago. It is now recommended to get an initial baseline exam, and then annually after 5 years of use. I don't think most rheumatologists are happy with this, and we still see everyone every year. It is necessary to do a 10-2 visual field test, ERG testing, and / or high definition OCT to screen, along with the eye exam.
