I had moderate stabbing (like painful tickle or poke) pain in a small area of my left upper abdomen, directly in line with my belly button. any ideas?

If upper abdomen: and directly above the belly button then that would be the mid epigastrium and could be a number of things. True left upper abdominal pain that is intermittant and stabbing is usually bowel spasm but yours sounds different and if it persists or worsens then see your doctor. May be a simple gastritis.
