I tell my: Patients that if this type of med works,it confirms the diagnosis of depression and to continue for at least a year.Otherwise,u feel better,u stop the med,and in a few weeks,your depressed again.

Trial after one year: If this is your first episode of depression, and Celexa (citalopram) has helped, you probably should take it for a year. Then if you're still stable, you can try to taper the drug and see how you react. If the symptoms return then in all likely hood you'll have to remain on the drug. Being in psychotherapy while on the medication will improve your response.
