Acute back strain : Ice followed by massage with lubricant or any balm, followed by gentle back stretches to be done as often as possible every hour for 10 minutes until pain goes away. Avoid soft couch, weight lifting. Take Ibuprofen if not contraindicated. Sooner you break the spasm from time it occurred faster you get better. Don't be afraid, massage is painful use but very helpful to break spasm.
