Safe: An IUD is a safe and very effective form of birth control at any age. Yes, your chances for getting pregnant at your age are significantly reduced, but is it worth the risk. If you are worried about pregnancy, use birth control.

Safer than most: ...in terms of efficacy, and side effects/ complications. Of course you would need exam beforehand to be sure you don't have fibroids or any other condition or contraindication before inserting, and there are always risks of the procedure that your doctor sholud discuss with you. But these are minimal relative to the advantages.
