It can happen: The ANA is a test that can turn positive for many reasons other than lupus. Certain medications, as an example, can cause the ANA to be (+) without it actually meaning that there is any auto-immune disease actually present. The "iu" stands for the number of units of antibody "positivity" of the ANA. Depending on which lab is used this can be a low value that appears and then fades away over time
