A member asked:

My left hand often cramps painfully for 20+ minutes and i cannot stretch it out. i also have numbness in pinkie and ring finger. what could this be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Often no cause: Spontaneous painful muscle cramps often happen without any detectable cause. Electrolytes imbalance and low Calcium levels in blood are rather uncommon causes of painful cramps. Gentle stretching of the painful muscle along with gentle massage resolves it in few minutes. Some medicines are associated with muscle cramps (like Statins) but they do not cause muscle contraction .
