Possible but: Prednisone reduces inflammation and thus may indeed mask the infection. On the other hand, it might also have reduce the mucosal swelling which had been obstructing the sinus drainage. The infection often clears after drainage has been established. If the pusey drainage resumed after a few days, then you know that it was from masking. If not, then you are clear.
