What are the signs that indicate a herniated disc started to heal?

Disc herniation: There are varying degrees of disc herniation: bulge, protrusion, extrusion, and free fragment. Disc extrusions and free fragments slowly dry up and dissolve on their own, however this takes time. Bulges and protrusions usually do not "heal" but can be helped with improved posture. Epidural steroid injections can reduce nerve swelling caused by the disc irritation, but not to shrink the disc.
