Contaminated tool: If you are up to date with your tetanus shots, you should be protected. Up-to-date means you got a shot less than 10 years ago. If you do not have a record or cannot remember, get a booster shot. If the contamination is with blood, there are other concerns and a consult should be arranged. Swelling, pain, redness, fever are all signs of infection, should be reason to immediately seek medical care.
