Like "normal" ones.: Images of mental hospitals are forbidding ,dark, brooding edifices made of brick ,like prisons. The days of state hospitals are gone with only a handful still standing but the number of patients there has declined significantly as community mental health clinics have taken over. "mental hospitals" are similar to any hospitals except that some are locked units for safety of patients and others.
