A 35-year-old member asked:

Can you use cranberry juice to prevent urinary tract infections?

Dr. Kenneth Cheng

Possibly: There are some studies that have shown that drinking cranberry juice may reduce the risk of contracting a urinary tract infections. It should be noted, however, that taking cranberry pills did not provide a similar benefit. Additionally, cranberry juice has not been found to help treat a urinary tract infection. Bottom line: may prevent infections but does not treat infections.

I'm an athlete. Work out 5 days a week, take vitamins, but can't seem to get a flat stomach. I think I have yeast in my intestines?

So does everyone: Overgrowth of yeast and the symptoms that result are very popular topics of conversation in some circles, but don't have a lot of medical evidence backing them up. If your stomach isn't flat and you're over weight, lose the pounds. If you're not over weight, i wonder if you're comparing yourself to the unrealistic images seen in popular media. Better to think of good health than flat stomach.

What is the difference between norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) and lortab?

1 doctor answer2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Mitchell Cohn

Acetaminophen: Both have the same narcotic ingredient (hydrocodone) & acetaminophen. Both can have the same dose of narcotic agent, but Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) has less Acetaminophen than vicodin or lortab. Drs. Know that Acetaminophen actually has a high risk of causing liver & kidney disease, so using less Acetaminophen decreases the chances of organ injury. This does, however, mean less synergistic pain relief from acetaminophen.
A 36-year-old member asked:

What will norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) (hydrocodone) do if taken for long period of time?

Dr. William Newton
Pain Management 19 years experience
Several things: The longer you take opioids there is a greater chance to develop a condition called hyperalgesia. You can also develop hormone imbalances and osteoporosis. The Acetaminophen in it can cause some liver problems over time as well. There always a risk for abuse and addiction. Discuss these risks with your physician.
