Were you treated: with one of the several forms of triple therapy (a combination of antibiotics, pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) and a proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole? If you were, the cure rate is pretty high. However, h. pylori causes ulcer disease mostly in the setting of high stomach acid output, and nothing raises stomach acid more than tobacco smoking. You are increasing your chance of relapse, and other harms as well.
