A member asked:

What to do if i have hypothyroidism. is it possible my daugher could have hyperthyroidism?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Most thyroid problems are caused by autoimmunity, where one's immune system misclassifies their own proteins as foreign, and makes antibodies against them. Autoimmunity can cause a variety of thyroid problems including hypothyroidism (low), hyperthyroidism(high), goiter(big thyroid), & nodules(lumps). Autoimmunity does run in families, but can cause different problems in different family members.
