May be.....: This comes from the fact that babies generally get their first set of immunization to protect against vaccine preventable diseases. Secondly their immune system by that age has probably been exposed to common germs from close contacts to make their bodies a bit resistant. But there are no hard and fast rules ex.for using common sense to take babies outsides if needed.

Not exactly...: Until a baby is 6-8 weeks old, they have not been immunized and they are at higher risk of serious complications if they are exposed to an illness. If they were to get a fever before this age then normal work up would include blood cultures, spinal tap, urine cultures, and hosp for at least 48 hours of IV antibiotics. The recommendation is to avoid areas with high risk exposure to illness...
