Ultrasound may help: Although surgical evaluation with a laparoscope is the only certain way to diagnose endometriosis many times an ultrasound can raise suspicion or provide strong support for the diagnosis. A negative ultrasound, however, does not rule out the condition

Surgery is only way: Surgery is the only way to definitively diagnose endometriosis as well as adenomyosis which can be causes of secondary dysmenorrhea. Other common causes of dysmenorrhea (painful periods) after pregnancy and c/section include hormonal changes, adhesions, neuropathic pain and musculoskeletal.
