Dryness or seb derm: I try to distinguish between flaking and dandruff caused by dryness, which i'd treat with a gentle, fragrance-free shampoo and perhaps reduced frequency of shampooing, and seborrheic dermatitis, which is more often associated with oiliness and a 'greasy scale', which i'd treat with a medicated shampoo containing zinc, or tar, or selenium sulfide, or salicylic acid, or ketoconazole.
