Liver function test: Elevated liver function tests (ALT, AST) also called transaminases, can be a sign of liver problems or may rise due to medication, acute illness, trauma, etc. There are many reasons. A single high reading should be repeated along with other tests of liver function. If tests trend high, more testing may be needed to find the underlying cause.
