A member asked:

I've got electrocuted about half an hour ago, and i just wanted to know if i should go to a doctor to get checked, or it's not a big deal ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Electrocution: IT IS A VERY BIG DEAL!! Electrocution can lead to heart arrythmias which can be fatal. Thermal injury can occur not only on the skin but also internally. Muscle breakdown called rhabdomyolysis is also common. The Emergency Department is the appropriate venue for evaluation following electrocution. It is not advisable to operate a motor vehicle following electrocution. 911 can provide an ambulance.
