At times need 2 appt: When a root canal isn't completed in 1 appointment, it is usually due to the infection in the bone at the root tip(s). The cleaned out canal needs to be dry to get an effective seal. If there is drainage from the infected bone seeping back into the tooth, you have to let that heal a bit before sealing the canal. At times the canals are irregular, branching, and/or narrow, needing more prep time.

Specialist: Just another reason to see a specialist for specialty treatment. Sometimes treatment takes multiple visits, so go back when Dentist says you need to be seen again...don't put it off.

1 to 3 appointments: In many cases with larger infection, your dentist may choose to leave some medication in the tooth for a week or so before completing the root canal. Be patient for better results.
