Can any doc explain if weight loss pills really work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Hi. The two recently FDA-approved pills, Belviq (lorcaserin) and Qsymia, do work, but the degree to which they cause weight loss is often less than people want. They generally cause on the order of 5-10% weight loss. That degree of loss may be very beneficial and can improve things like diabetes control. Nevertheless, they won't get someone with a BMI of 45 down to a normal BMI of 25.
