A member asked:

How many phlelbotomy treatments does it take to lower your iron count? and what is the normal count for women ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Serum ferritin: I'm going to assume that phletobomy is being performed for hemochromatosis, that it is being monitored occasionally by checking the serum ferritin (the serum iron level is for the screen), and that you know you're treating a very serious disease rather than a lab value. Even the first phlebotomy begins the process. Most women run ferritin below 250 but ask what's the target for Rx.
