A member asked:

During vulval swab of prepubescent child, is it appropriate for the clinician to use one gloved hand to manipulate qtip and non gloved hand for legs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Clean hands are fine: Since prepubertal kids are presumed to have no sexually transmitted diseases, and their exams are just external exams, clean hands are fine. Doctors generally wash their hands or use an alcohol hand gel before starting an exam (regardless of the body part being examined), and wash their hands or use gel again after an exam. In America, the use of gloves has become common in the last few decades.
