A member asked:

Is a vulval swabbing indicated/absolutely necessary in otherwise healthy 8yo?

Annual check-up: If an 8 year-old has no health issues, that would mean she is at the doctor's office just for her annual check-up, and has no symptoms at all. Otherwise, she would not be considered completely "otherwise healthy". In an annual check-up of a girl or woman of any age, with no vulval or vaginal symptoms, vulval swabbing is not needed.

Depends: A kid can be outwardly healthy but have a problem with vulvar/vaginal itching and frequent urination. If your kid has a problem in this area it should be looked at and appropriate studies done. It is not part of a well check. You need to trust your source of care to investigate issues you present. If you do not, find a place where you do. It is not an issue that can be solved by history alone.
