Blocked carotid art: A blocked carotid artery may result in strokes yet it may also be totally asymptomatic. Surgery (endarterectomy) may not be done when it is completely blocked. He needs to have all his stroke risk factors controlled and lead a healthy lifestyle with regular lifestyles and healthy diet with exercises.

Depends: It does depend on flow from the other side. If there is good flow from the other vessels then effects may be minimized. But must take very good care of himself and constant communication with his doctors is needed especially if any new symptoms present

Its about the future: The complete blockage won't cause stroke if it has not already done so. Its atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Can impact many body parts (heart attack, legs, kidneys, carotids, others). Its a gradually progressive problem with age. Goal is to slow that progress in all areas if possible. NEVER SMOKE, treat BP and diabetes if needed, keep cholesterol low (statins), Aspirin, exercise.
