Maybe...: Maybe thinking about it in a different way than just "seeking pleasure" may help. People do things for a lot of different reasons. Self-mutilation (by this i assume you mean "cutting") is not different. Self-mutilation may help a person feel more in control of their feelings or emotion, or meet some other perceived need that the person has.
