A member asked:

Would the er test for leukemia if you went with symptoms? doctor can't do anything but a cbc test with a pediatrician opinion, so he said i *could* go

What are you asking?: I understand you are in Canada and having difficulty getting testing that would be easy in most other places, and that you're concerned about leukemia. The emergency room is poorly equipped for this, and you're best to leave this in the hands of a competent primary care physician. All that's required is a CBC and a smear looking either for abnormal cells or very abnormal counts.

Yes but...: Simple test such as CBC could reveal abnormal findings suggestive of leukemia. Definitive diagnosis requires bone marrow aspiration or biopsy usually done by hematologist.
