The loss will help: Hiatal Hernias are common and can often exacerbate GERD. Weight is on huge (sorry for the pun) factor due to abdominal pressure. The use of alcohol also exacerbates the GERD by lowering the pressure of the esophageal sphincter as well being a source of calories. Lose the weight-it has so many positive effects beyond control of the GERD.
